After 30, growth hormone production declines roughly 15% every decade. By the time most men reach 50, they have less than half the GH they had at their peak. The result shows up in places you know well: stubborn body fat, slower recovery, disrupted sleep, and a general feeling that your body isn't bouncing back the way it used to.
Sermorelin is a bioidentical analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Unlike synthetic HGH, which replaces your body's output from the outside, sermorelin works upstream — signaling your pituitary gland to produce and release your own natural growth hormone in the same pulsatile rhythm your body has always used. You are not replacing GH. You are restoring the signal that was lost.
At Obsidian Genetics, sermorelin is prescribed by board-certified physicians based on your health history and goals.

Growth hormone restoration is a long-term strategy. Benefits build progressively — the longer you stay consistent, the more the results compound.
Growth hormone decline is one of the most well-documented markers of biological aging. The research on restoring it is equally clear.
Growth hormone drops approximately 15% every decade after age 30. This decline is measurable, consistent, and one of the clearest hallmarks of aging.
Most patients report deeper, more restorative sleep within the first 2 to 3 weeks of therapy. The GHRH-sleep relationship is physiologically established.
Measurable increases in IGF-1 levels typically appear within 4 to 12 weeks as the pituitary upregulates GH production in response to the GHRH signal.
Clinical Applications
Sermorelin is a 29-amino acid peptide that binds to the GHRH receptor on somatotroph cells in the anterior pituitary gland. This binding triggers the synthesis and release of growth hormone in a pattern that closely mirrors your body's natural GH pulse — typically concentrated during deep sleep.
Unlike synthetic HGH injections, which deliver a flat, non-physiological dose of exogenous hormone, sermorelin preserves the natural pulsatile rhythm of GH secretion. This matters because the body's GH receptors are designed to respond to pulses, not a constant level — making the response more physiologically appropriate and reducing the risk of downstream suppression.
Released GH travels to the liver and other tissues, stimulating the production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 is the primary mediator of GH's anabolic effects — driving cellular repair, muscle protein synthesis, fat metabolism, and tissue regeneration throughout the body. IGF-1 levels are measured in bloodwork to confirm the therapy is working.
Sermorelin is well-tolerated by most patients. Your provider will review your full health history and monitor your progress with regular lab work.
Mild redness, swelling, or discomfort at the injection site is the most commonly reported side effect and typically resolves within minutes. Rotating injection sites and proper technique reduce these occurrences significantly. Your provider will walk you through the injection protocol.
Some patients report mild, temporary headache, nausea, flushing, or dizziness in the early weeks of therapy. These typically subside as the body adjusts. Tingling or numbness, particularly in the extremities, can also occur and is generally benign. Contact your provider if symptoms persist.
Sermorelin is most effective when injected at bedtime on an empty stomach. Insulin released after a meal can blunt the GH response. Avoid eating for 2 to 3 hours before your injection. Growth hormone is primarily released during deep sleep, so the bedtime protocol aligns the dose with the body's natural GH pulse window.
Sermorelin is not appropriate for patients with active malignancy, as growth hormone can stimulate cell proliferation. It is also not indicated for patients with known pituitary tumors or hypopituitary conditions that would prevent a GH response. Patients with a history of cancer should discuss this with their oncologist before starting therapy. Sermorelin is injected subcutaneously with a small-gauge needle — patients who are needle-averse should discuss this with their provider before starting. All patients are monitored with IGF-1 lab work throughout therapy to confirm appropriate response and adjust dosing.

Prescription Required. Sermorelin is a prescription medication. A valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider is required before any medication is dispensed. Obsidian Genetics facilitates access to board-certified physicians who independently determine whether treatment is appropriate for each patient. We do not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.
Compounded Medication Notice. Sermorelin dispensed by Obsidian Genetics is a compounded preparation produced by a licensed compounding pharmacy. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved and have not undergone FDA review for safety, efficacy, or manufacturing quality. Compounded sermorelin is prepared for individual patient use based on a valid prescription.
Off-Label Use. Sermorelin is used off-label for adult anti-aging, body composition, and wellness purposes. The original FDA-approved formulation (Geref) was indicated for the diagnosis and treatment of growth hormone deficiency in pediatric patients and is no longer commercially available. Use of compounded sermorelin for adult wellness is based on clinical evidence and physician judgment, not an FDA-approved indication.
